Description

Aero-graphics acquired .5-foot pixel resolution digital imagery over approximately 1767 square miles located in Cass County, North Dakota. Images were flown with a Piper PA-23 Aztec aircraft equipped with a Microsoft/Vexcel UltraCam Eagle digital camera by Aero-graphics, Inc on April 13, 21 and 22, 2016. There are a total of 1789 ortho tiles available in GeoTIFF and SID formats, along with 6 larger SID mosaics.

Summary

This data depicts geographic features on the surface of the earth. Digital orthophotos are aerial images corrected for displacement caused by relief in the Earth's surface, camera/sensor lens distortion and tilting of the sensor at the time of image acquisition. Additionally, orthophotos are assigned a uniform scale, which allows an end-user the ability to derive accurate measurements from the imagery. Orthophotos can be used as an accurate record of landscape conditions at the time of the corresponding aerial imagery. As such, the digital orthophotos are used in a variety of applications, such as environmental monitoring, facility engineering/maintenance, city/county planning, property line review, etc. The digital orthophoto can be used alone or as a raster base map for corresponding vector line mapping.

Measure description
Compliance with the accuracy standard was ensured by the placement of paneled ground control during the acquisition of aerial imagery. The following checks were performed: 1. The ground control and airborne GPS/IMU data stream were validated through an aerotriangulation bundle adjustment using Inpho software. 2. Digital orthophotography was validated through a visual inspection of control points, edge matching and general image quality.

Description
Ortho Processing Workflow: Rectification was accomplished using the aerotriangulation data, images and autocorrelated points. Once rectified, the orthoimagery was mosaicked using auto generated seamlines in OrthoVista Seam Editor (OVSE). The 8 bit data range was adjusted for display in standard 8 bit image channels by defining a piecewise histogram stretch using OrthoVista software. A constant stretch was defined for each image collection period, and then strip by strip adjustments were made as needed to account for changes in sun angle and azimuth during the collection period. Using OrthoVista software, the imagery was mosaicked and tiled to tile extents. These went through an extensive QA/QC process to ensure the contract specifications were met.

Description
Aerotriangulation Workflow: Aerotriangulation blocks were defined primarily by order of acquisition and consisted of 57 imagery strips. Image tie points providing the observations for the least squares bundle adjustment were selected from the images using an autocorrelation algorithm. Photogrammetric control points consisted of photo identifiable control points, collected using GPS field survey techniques. The control points were loaded into a softcopy workstation and measured in the acquired image strips. A least squares bundle adjustment of image pass points, control points and the ABGPS was performed to develop an aerotriangulation solution for each block using Inpho software.

Ground Survey - Equipment and Methodology: Aero-graphics used CORS base stations and statically-collected survey data at strategic points throughout the project area to ensure that the image data maintained its true geographic integrity. The Applanix SmartBase Network was used to differentially correct the aircraft's trajectory data.

Description
Imagery Acquisition - Equipment and Methodology: The imagery was collected using a Microsoft/Vexcel UltraCam Eagle direct digital sensor, which has a 100.5 millimeter focal length. Collection was performed using a Piper Aztec PA-23 aircraft with 30% side lap, giving the collected data nominal ground sampling distance of 0.5 foot. Based upon the CCD Array configuration present in the UltraCam Eagle digital sensor, imagery for each exposure is 20,010 pixels in width. Red, Green, Blue, Infrared and Panchromatic image bands were collected.
